The licence, which is granted by the Directorate of Fisheries, gives permission to run experiments and research associated with brood fish, breeding and genetics. The farming biomass is up to 500 tonnes (maximal permitted biomass at any time in the sea) for a period of five years with extension possibilities.

The general evaluation is stating that Aqua Gen through earlier activity has proven to be a serious breeding company doing breeding work and research on a high scientific level. Aqua Gen’s broad cooperation with leading research institutions has strengthened the expectations for obtaining knowledge of benefit to the fish farming industry.

The described experiments are looked upon as research giving value both to Aqua Gen, other breeding companies and brood fish producers. Fish included in the research licence can not be used as brood fish in the commercial egg production.

Of planned experiments which can be started soon, regulation of spawning time, development of brood fish feed, genetic variation in tolerance of feed with different vegetable ingredients can be mentioned. In addition ongoing experiments such as selection of fish with improved heart- and circulation system also will be included in the research site.
