Today’s Atlantic salmon products are based on the collection of varied and representative genetic material from 41 salmon rivers in the period from 1971-1974. Through the years of continuing development work a genetic material has been created which is suited to today’s standards for producers and consumers.

In the breeding nucleus we have 800 families which give a broad basis for the selection of breeding fish for production of quality eggs for the market. Family-based breeding work and selection through 10 generations is the foundation for being able to offer a fish which grows fast, is vital, robust, and has a fine colour and shape. This is achieved through the systematic measurement of 22 traits of about 100 000 fish in each generation. Each egg batch is fully traceable and documented.
