Eyed eggs of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.)
In the breeding nucleus we have 800 families which give a broad basis for the selection of breeding fish for production of quality eggs for the market. Family-based breeding work and selection through nine generations (36 years) is the foundation for being able to offer a fish which grows fast, is vital, robust, and has a fine colour and shape. This is achieved through the systematic measurement of 22 traits of about 100 000 fish in each generation. Each egg batch is fully traceable and documented. Benchmarking under the direction of MonAqua AS , as well as market studies, show that fish with Aqua Gen pedigrees have a faster growth in food fish production than fish from other genetic lines. Four polystyrene trays with eggs are packed in each box. A fifth tray of ice is laid on the top before packing in the egg
boxes. Each egg box contains 40-45 000 salmon eggs.

Today’s Atlantic salmon products are based on the collection of varied and representative genetic material from 41 salmon
rivers in the period from 1971-1974. Through the years of continuing development work a genetic material has been created
which is suited to today’s standards for producers and consumers.
