ISA in a Marine Harvest sea site

Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA) has been diagnosed on a broodfish population belonging to Marine Harvest Norway, location Høgholmen in Bjugn. The site is one of the external multipliers in the Aqua Gen system.

The site is located in an area where there have previously been outbreaks of ISA, and is not located in the vicinity of other Aqua Gen breeding populations. Fish in the plant will be harvested immediately to minimize the risk of spreading ISA to neighbouring sea sites.

The eggs that were budgeted for supply to the external market from this multiplier will now be allocated to other producers.

The Aqua Gen system has buffer capacity and a security structure that more than compensates for the production volume budgeted from the affected site. The slaughter of this brood fish population will not affect the planned production volume or delivery schedule for Aqua Gen eggs in the 2009/2010 egg season.
